Tournament Format and Rules

Categories:

  • Men’s Doubles
  • Women’s Doubles
  • Mixed Doubles

Team Composition:

  • Each team can have up to 8 players, including 2 substitutes
  • Min 5 players required, 2 women players must
  • Substitutions are not allowed once a match has started.

Player Participation:

  • Men are restricted to participating in one category only.
  • Women can participate in multiple categories in the same match
  • Teams must decide and declare their players for each category before the start of each game.

Match Play:

  • A match consists of 3 games, one in each category
  • Any team that wins any 2 category game wins the match
  • There will be toss between captains to choose the category they would like to play first
  • Next game the opponent captain gets to choose the category.
  • Category for game is chosen alternately by each captain and communicated to opponent
  • League or Knockout format will be decided based on number of teams registering
  • If League, team that wins a match gets 3 points
  • In case of tie is number points between teams in league stages, number of games won (games difference) is considered. If there is a tie, the game match point difference will be considered to break the tie breaker
  • At league stages all 3 games will be played, even if a team wins any 2 categories
  • The match ends as soon as a team wins 3 categories and further games will not be played in the match in knockout stages
  • A game consists of one set (for initial rounds) or best of three sets ( finals) – depending on number of teams registering
  • Each game is played for 21 points or 3 sets of 15/11 points – depending on number of teams registering
  • If a set/game proceeds beyond allocated set points, golden point will be played after 2 points.

Standard Table Tennis Rules:

Service:

  • Each player serves two consecutive points, then service alternates.

  • The ball must be tossed vertically at least 16 cm (6 inches) and struck so it first touches the server’s side, then the opponent’s.

Scoring

A point is scored when:

  • The opponent fails to make a correct return.
  • The serve or return misses the table.
  • The opponent touches the table or net.
  • The ball bounces twice on the opponent’s side.

Player Attire:

Players must wear appropriate sports attire including sports shoes. No barefoot allowed

Team and Player Conduct:

  • All players must display good sportsmanship and respect towards opponents, officials, and teammates.
    Unsportsmanlike conduct, including but not limited to verbal abuse or intentional damage to equipment, will result in penalties or disqualification.
    Respect referees and opponents at all times.
    No coaching is allowed during a rally.
    Disruptive behavior or foul language may lead to warning or disqualification.
    Umpire/Organizer’s decision will be final and binding.

Time & Walkover

  • If a player is not present 5 minutes after the match is called, the opponent will receive a walkover.
  • Warm-up time before a match is limited to 2 minutes.
